About the Department

Department of English, Siddhinath Mahavidyalaya, started its academic journey along with the establishment of college in the year 2013. From the very initial stage the department started with Honours and General papers. Down the years the department has developed and reached the acme of success. In the field of English literature and language under Vidyasagar University English department of Siddhinath Mahavidyalaya has acquired a good position.

There is a saying about the English department of this college: coming with fresh mind, attending class with rapt attention and leaving the class with fruitful impression. Teachers never tell the students to be busy with syllabus centric topics. Rather, the department is a gateway to go the depth beyond expectations and limitations. Topic wise classroom presentation, preparing and producing project paper, question-answer session and group discussion are the ways through which the department is running forward. When students get bored with literature, teachers switch on another part and that is English grammar & spoken English.

Teachers give space to the students to be free to share their drawbacks. Teachers with great endeavour try to solve their problems. Many students have given feedback of how they are benefitted at different sectors to have the knowledge of spoken English course. This achievement of the students is the achievement of the teachers and obviously of the department.

There are four well qualified teachers. They try their level best to make the students practical and analytical. Their teaching style, advice and support help the students to get position at different universities throughout the country.

After the completion of Higher Secondary students for the first time step in the world of literature and language. Without basic idea students attend class with a view to knowing new things. Teachers are responsible to make the students to understand the literature. Teachers are doing their noble deeds to make the students quite smart, fluent and efficient in English language through various activities.

Special Activities

Wall Magazine:

Department has Wall Magazine named “GENESIS”, its offer a wide variety of writing opportunities as students respond to the text and create their own pieces modeled from the various features offered in a magazine. It is to initiate writing on current incidents, to develop literature oriented habits, to provide training for the development of reading, listening, speaking and writing skills.

Freshers Welcome & Farewell:

Every year a Fresher’s Welcome ceremony is organized by the students of 2nd and 3rd year. They welcome the new learners with their worm affection and a grand function. The students of 1st and 2nd year organize a Farewell Ceremony to adieu the seniors.

Seminar/ Special Lecture:

The department is regularly organized students-seminar, group discussion to develop their communication skill. Special lectures and Invited lectures are also organized. These help students to enrich their knowledge.

Short-term Course:

The Department has started offering short-term skill enhancing add-on courses that not only have utility for job, self-employment but also lead to a growth and empowerment of the students.
