About the Department
Reappraising past for a better understanding of present is a popular academic exercise in the recent era. Sanskrit, one of the oldest scientific languages in the world may be considered as a tool to build the corridor between the past and the present. It is a tapestry neatly woven by vibrant and multicoloured threads of Vedas, epics, Puranas, creative literature, political texts, epigraphic texts, philosophical heritage and scientific wisdom. Along with Prakrit and Pali, this language has always borne the baton of civilization, culture, and heritage. May it be the study of history of Indian Sub-continent or innovation in computational linguistics this language also has proved its efficacy. With a view to cultivate this stream of ancient wisdom with a modern approach, the department of Sanskrit was established in the year 2013. From the inception of the department honours course had been running successfully. The departmental teachers are sincerely engaged themselves to quench the thirst of the students who are in most cases first or second-generation learners. In spite of various problems of carrying out higher study in rural set up, the students of the department use to qualify the university examinations with flying colours. The department not only imparts syllabus-centric knowledge but tries to spotlight the present crosscutting issues reflected in the texts. The department has organised events like invited talk, seminar lecture, workshop, quiz, elocution competitions etc.
